Today we’re going back to the folks at Cabela’s to look at another event based email. Unlike the last event based email I discussed from Cabela’s, this one does a much better job of building a promotion around an important event for their core customers.
Subject Line and Visible Text
For this email, the subject line is simple but compelling – “Opening day is coming…”. While I am not a hunter, I used to work with a ton of folks who did hunt and what I learned from them was that opening day for hunting is a major event. People take the day off work, kids take the day off school, you get the idea. Needless to say, when a hunter gets an email from a store like Cabela’s with that subject line, they know exactly what to expect from the email.
In terms of the visible text, the question “Are you ready?” goes nicely with the subject line. The D2C guy in me really wants to see some reference to a sale or offer in the visible text, but honestly, the subject line and visible text they used is more than enough to get readers to open.
Email Body Content
I really like what Cabela’s does here with the body of their email. Unlike the previously mentioned Cabela’s email, this email provides six very compelling offers in the form of new products, discounted products and special pricing. Every product featured relates directly to opening day and the imagery used makes sense. The layout works across all platforms and gives equal balance to each of the offers.
While I’m not personally a fan of hunting, I am a fan of this email. The only thing I would consider adding is a link to a page that lists off opening days for different hunting types based on location (as the dates vary from state to state).
